Our beautiful, easy-to-navigate online marketplace – Made By Many Hands – connects customers with hand-crafted products and services being sold by migrant women and the nano businesses and micro businesses they have founded. Please view our introductory YouTube video to meet some of our vendors.
Selling via online marketplaces is now a core part of many retailers’ strategies and is the foundation of building an entrepreneurial business that can withstand the types of challenges we have seen in 2020 and 2021. Online marketplaces in Australia grew by a huge 74.8% in 2019, and another 57% in 2020. More Australians shopped online than ever before in 2020. Around four in five households – that’s almost nine million households– purchased online at some point during the year.
What makes Made by Many Hands unique?
All product sales are managed by the vendors. We give migrant and refugee women the advice, autonomy and independence required to create their own products, set their own prices, and sell directly to the online market.
Unlike other platforms, vendors are paid immediately and directly for their product or service. We recognise the critical importance of our vendors having control and stewardship of their own income.
The design of the platform interface is mindful of users who may have low literacy levels, or limited access to computers and Wi-Fi. This ensures managing online sales is as user-friendly as possible. Product upload and management can be done on a mobile device – a tool we know most women have access to.
All profits from Made By Many Hands are reinvested to ensure continued support, via skills and literacy education programs, of migrant women on their journey to becoming independent entrepreneurs.
All products are ethically and sustainably sourced and manufactured.
