Petite Dolls is A Business We Love!
Petite was the name of the very first doll I had received on my first birthday. I loved it so much and used to take it everywhere with me.
The journey of “Petite Dolls” started in 2020 when I started running online workshops and virtual classes for female-led small businesses in Iran. I curated entrepreneurship courses to help artisans and talented Iranian women in rural areas to build their businesses.
Through these courses, I got the opportunity to know many Iranian doll makers who make handmade dolls. They work from home and live in rural cities. Some of them are single mums, breadwinners of their families. As a single mum, I am deeply related to them. So, I decided to help their business to grow.
So, I collaborated with their team leader to curate dolls for the Australian market to create a new market opportunity. I tested the market and held my first stall in March 2022. Everyone loved the dolls, loved the story behind them, and the fact that their money can make changes in someone’s life. Dolls are purchased ethically and the details of the doll makers are displayed next to the dolls. I ask customers to tag the makers.
So, these dolls are not just toys. They support a great cause. They are vessels to carry love and a sense of belonging. They are vessels to connect people and communities. To remind us we can make a difference with our choice and our power lies in our simple choices.
My dream is to expand this business so I can create a steady income for more women who don’t have access to a bigger market.
“Petite Dolls” is a small step like my little Petite, but it is so dear to my heart. It is my small step to make a difference in the world.
